Can’t say I didn’t smell this one coming!
After weeks of temporarily co-hosting alongside her Bow Wow, Angela Simmons has officially secured a permanent spot as co-host of BET’s 106 & Park.
Last fall when we learned that Terrence J and Rocsi were leaving the popular music countdown show, 106 & Park fans were apprehensive about who BET would replace their hosting slots with. There were speculations, but the network surprised us all when they filled the slots with not two, but four new hosts including: Paigion, Shorty da Prince, Miss Mykie, and rapper Bow Wow.
Since its inception, 106 & Park had remained a two-person hosting platform (Free and AJ were the original hosts), but with four new personalities hosting the show, things seemed…well, awkward. Apparently, it didn’t take long for the network to catch on to how awkwardly their “genius” multi-host format looked to viewers.
Fast forward to last month, and suddenly none of the new co-hosts, with the exception of Bow Wow, have been in sight. Instead, Angela Simmons, an aspiring fashion designer and daughter of Rev Run, has been standing alongside Bow Wow co-hosting the show. And since she’s been obviously performing well and her and Bow have major chemistry (they used to date back in the day), the network has reportedly given her the opportunity to host the show full-time.
Though BET hasn’t sent out an official statement confirming the reports, it’s definitely legit because here is the congratulatory tweet from Bow sent out a few hours ago welcoming Ang to the BET family:
Update: Here’s the official statement from Zabrina Horton of BET’s PR department (via Necole Bitchie):
“106 & Park” is undergoing exciting changes. Angela Simmons will continue to guest host until the end of the summer. Bow Wow aka “Mr. 106 & Park” will continue as the lead host; Miss. Mykie, Paigion and Shorty Da Prince will no longer remain on the show. BET Networks is happy to have worked with these bright, young stars and will continue to support them and their upcoming endeavors.
I don’t know how you all feel about Angela being the new co-host, but I don’t like it. I haven’t a clue what transpired behind the scenes at BET, but I am almost certain the other three hosts were given pink slips rather than being allowed to finish out their contracts as hosts. This happened too suddenly and I suspect that some shadiness went down, and that’s why I am not here for Angie coming in and taking over. It’s nothing against her though.
Hopefully within the next few days, one or all three of the former hosts will come forward and spill the tea for us. Until then, stay tuned.
