About two years ago, Pastry’s footwear designer, Angela Simmons tweeted photos revealing her natural hair in both ‘fro form and then in its blow dried glory. Known for her long, luxurious 28-inch-plus weaves, the photos immediately sparked the public’s interest.
In a brief interview with Curly Nikki Angela revealed that the only way she is able to retain length is to wear weaves as a protective style; also confessing that her “hectic lifestyle” requires her to wear weaves because she doesn’t really know how to care for her natural hair and she’s typically too busy to properly attend to it. Admitting to visiting her stylist in the salon as often as 2-3 times per week (must be nice!), the 25-year-old businesswoman is rarely spotted sans weave. But, when she is, it’s definitely a wondrous sight.
This past weekend, Angie snapped a series of photos of her rocking her natural hair and uploaded them for 400,000 Instagram followers to see. Since her 2011 natural hair shots, Angela’s hair has grown considerably. Peep the growth below:

While some may question why Angela even chooses to wear weave with hair flowing past her shoulders, I completely understand and agree with her decision to wear her natural hair for a few weeks before tucking it back under weave. It’s the best way to retain length and maintain healthy hair (at least that’s been my experience). I love Angie and her hair; she’s proof that just because a girl wears weaves or prefers extensions, it doesn’t automatically connote an absence of healthy hair.
